People are widely supportive of protecting LGBT people from discrimination—however, many don’t know that it is still no federal law that explicitly does this very thing. Everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation and gender identity, should be able to be treated fairly in their place of employment, provide for their families, live in their dream home.

That’s why the ACLU of Arizona wrote HB 2625 – so every Arizonan can be their authentic, joyful self without living in fear of being fired from their job or evicted from their home simply because they are gay or transgender. Arizona law already protects people from discrimination based on race, religion, sex, disability, in employment, housing, and public accommodations.

What does HB 2625 Do?

HB 2625, also known as The Statewide Nondiscrimination Act, would expand these protections to include sexual orientation and gender identity in Arizona’s existing non-discrimination framework, providing LGBTQ+ Arizonans the same protections that are provided to everyone else in our state. Our bill would make Arizona the 24th state to protect LGBTQ people from discrimination and update state laws to ensure that all hardworking Arizonans are treated fairly and equally by the laws in our state. Though Phoenix and Tucson have non-discrimination ordinance laws already in place, it is time for the rest of Arizona to catch up and provide these necessary protections.

You can find the official language of the bill here.
