Attorneys and Community Members to Discuss Legal Victory Ordering Overhaul of Unconstitutional Border Patrol Detention Conditions
A federal court on Wednesday found conditions in U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) facilities in the Tucson Sector violate the U.S. Constitution, ordering CBP to provide a bed, blanket, shower, potable food and water, and a medical assessment if migrants are held for longer than 48 hours.
The decision, which comes after five years of litigation -- including a seven-day trial in January -- upholds a previous decision by the court and orders further changes. Attorneys, community members, and witnesses who testified in trial will speak to reporters about the significance of the decision on a press call on Wednesday, Feb. 19, at 6 pm ET/4 pm MT.
