What does the Arizona Secretary of State do?
The responsibilities of the Arizona Secretary of State (SOS) are many but one of its most important roles is to ensure that elections in our state are run safely and efficiently. As Chief Election Officer for the State, the SOS certifies voting devices, election results, and candidates and measures to the ballot.
This year, voters are tasked with electing a Secretary of State. We sent a questionnaire to the two candidates, Adrian Fontes and Mark Finchem, to learn more about where they stand on important civil rights and civil liberties issues that they will face as SOS. The ACLU does not endorse or oppose candidates, but we do want to give you the information you need to make informed decisions.
Cast an Informed Vote
Early voting begins on October 12. Make sure you know the candidates’ positions on key civil liberties and civil rights issues. Candidates who did not return the survey will have their response to each question marked as “no.”
